Watershed Public Charter School (“WPCS”) is a highly diverse environmental arts elementary-middle school within the Baltimore County Public School (“BCPS”) system. WPCS provides an interconnected learning environment, where hands-on exploration and creative expression foster the learning process. WPCS promotes rigorous academic achievement, meaningful outdoor experiences, and continuous growth for all students. Watershed Public Charter School, Inc. (“Watershed, Inc.) is the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization responsible for the oversight, support, and enhancement of WPCS. As a testament to WPCS’ status as a state and nationally recognized school, the Baltimore County Board of Education recently renewed WPCS’ charter agreement with BCPS by a unanimous vote.
Watershed, Inc. is seeking an experienced and visionary leader who is passionate about both the environment and progressive education to serve as Executive Director. A successful candidate is as comfortable in forward-facing events with key stakeholders as they are in rain boots, walking through mud and under trees. Watershed, Inc. needs an Executive Director who understands that a Maryland charter school academic experience values innovation and provides room for autonomy within a public school system. This leader would adeptly balance the requirements, policies, and procedures of the LEA with the fiduciary responsibility of running a small, non-profit organization. The Executive Director will work in close collaboration with WPCS’ principal to both complement and challenge each other to find ways to best support the school’s teacher-created project-based curriculum. A successful candidate will exhibit a solid ability to form constructive working relationships with a volunteer Board of Directors, oversee day-to-day operations with dedicated staff members while maintaining frequent, positive interactions that seek out and respect the diverse backgrounds and lived experiences of students, staff, and families. Watershed, Inc.’s Executive Director plays a pivotal role in shaping and implementing the school's mission, and therefore, the ideal candidate is a dynamic communicator, a demonstrated advocate, a strategic planner who is motivated, goal-oriented, thoughtful, and approachable.
